Surgeon General’s Advisory Emphasizes Importance of Naloxone Amid Opioid Crisis

Surgeon General Jerome M. Adams, MD, MPH, in a public health advisory released on April 5, recommended that more people, such as family members, friends and even high-risk opioid-prescribed patients themselves, carry naloxone on hand to combat potential overdoses.

“To manage opioid addiction and prevent future overdoses, increased naloxone availability must occur in conjunction with expanded access to evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorder,” Dr. Adams said in the press …
